The Broom Relay Race (LWA Episode 3 Review)
BEFORE WE GET STARTED
I'D JUST LIKE TO POINT OUT
SUCY IS A LITTLE SHIT AND I LOVE HER
Anyway,
This episode focuses on an event called the "Broom Relay", which is a racing game that's played on broomsticks.
And of course, after seeing Chariot's picture up, Akko immediately wanted to join in on the race.
She doesn't even know how to ride a fucking broom...
We're also introduced to a new character,
Miss Amanda O'Neil! She looks like an apple to me... I don't know why.
So in order to help her learn, Professor Ursula gives her a beginner's guide to riding a broom
This girl literally does one thing and just drops it. I'm pretty sure if she kept reading she could have found a way to fly the damn broom.
Lotte soon brings Akko to a magic items shop, where the two learn about the legendary Shooting Star broom. This was once used to cross the Atlantic Ocean without the aid of a Sorcerer's Stone. And of course, Akko's wants to use it to help her win the race. However the broom is off-limits due to it being out of control and almost untamable by other witches.
Apple-Head happened to be lurking in the shadows and overheard their conversation.
And like any rebel character she actually succeeded in stealing the broom.
On to the race!
This is what I meant when I said that Sucy is a little shit.
Since there's a prize being given by the pharmaceutics professor, Sucy had actually agreed to being in the event just to get the prize.
So in order to win, she planted a couple traps for the other teams. Such as putting nutrients in their brooms so they'd stick to the ground, as well as hanging donuts that went off course for the more gluttonous students.
However, there were a couple students who were two steps ahead. This chick literally made hers into some kind of motorcycle.
But what got me thinking was, how the hell did these people not get disqualified??
Like isn't that cheating? Modifying the broom gives a disadvantage to everyone else and basically guarantees this person's winning.
Surprise, surprise! Apple-Head can't contain the legendary broom...
Honestly, what did she expect?? What kind of dumbass literally steals a dangerous and powerful tool for a petty school race? And she actually expected it to obey her.
Honey, it was in chains for a reason.
So now Akko's been passed the baton, BUT since she still can't fly a broom Sucy had given her a serum to give Akko's broom "legs" to jump. Even now I'm still wondering how she didn't get disqualified SINCE SHE AINT EVEN FLYING THE DAMN BROOM
ISNT THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE RACE??
The legendary broom then flies past Akko, so she takes the chance to grab the chain and climb up to it. This was probably the only time I found to be a badass in this episode.
Geez, if that were me I wouldn't have been able to even hold on to the chain let alone climb it. I'd be so scared 😖
As she finally gets a hold of the broom, this thing literally flies her completely off course. And here I am, thinking about how bad the teachers are at their job for not noticing that Akko just left.
She finally gets back near the course, but unfortunately falls off the broom. Thankfully Diana was there to catch her before she fell into the ground. I'm just glad that this girl isn't a complete prissy ass.
One thing that I actually find pretty decent about Akko is her determination over actually getting the job done. She could've just stayed on the ground and called a rescue party.
But instead she decided to take the chance once again and ride the broom.
But as Akko's racing towards the finish line, Apple-Head tries to get the broom back (in mid-air mind you) but the teachers see that the ring around her wrist isn't the baton., it's actually a donut. So due to violation of rules Apple-Head's team gets disqualified.
How the hell do the teachers notice that there's a donut on her wrist, but they didn't notice that Akko had left the course OR that she was riding a broom that wasn't even hers??
I'd think that using a broom that wasn't issued by the school AND flies by itself would be a huge violation.
But no. Apparently the teachers don't know shit about a fair game.
So now Akko and Diana are neck-and-neck in the race, both desperately racing toward the finish line.
However, this doesn't work out for the protagonist like it usually would in most shows.
Diana actually wins the competition. BUT I think despite her loss Akko is still kind of happy she got to see something beautiful. But I'm still wondering whether that thing was a broom or just a very skinny bird.
