My Thoughts on Mikasa Ackerman (Character Analysis Post)
Hey, everyone!! I've realized that literally all I talk about on this blog are the manga and anime I see, which isn't very fair for all of you loyal readers out there. So I've decided to talk about something that might be a little more interesting...
This is Mikasa Ackerman. Now I know she's not the most liked character in the SnK fandom (for many reasons), but I personally feel that she's not as bad as some may think she is.
One of the main reasons why most don't like her is simply because of the way her personality is. They find her to be emotionless because she keeps a stoic expression (and that picture proves otherwise) and "clingy" because she's usually around, and is constantly trying to protect, Eren.
What they don't understand and seem to forget is WHY.
Everyone remembers the sixth episode of Shingeki right? You know, the one where Mikasa's parents are fucking murdered? Yeah I thought so.
Now imagine that, you're having a conversation with your parents and they mention a doctor coming over. There's a knock at the door so your father opens the door without even checking who it is and gETS FUCKING STABBED!
Not only that, it's three grown ass men against you (who at the time is nine years old) against your mother. In a last attempt to save you your mother grabs the nearest object and tries to fight them all so that you could run away, but you are just in so much shock and so very afraid to the point where you can't even move and then your mom gets her artery split open with an ax. And so the men proceed to grab you, knock you the fuck out, and you wake up in a cabin in the middle of the woods with sex traffickers making plans for you. To top it all off it's a rainy day.
Pretty fucking horrific, right?
But get this: There's a knock and on the other side of the door there happens to be a little boy who claims to be lost, but he's actually playing dumb and ends up stabbing the man who answered the door. But then, the boy closes the door, runs out and stabs the other guy with a makeshift spear he made with a broom and the knife he brought with him. He frees you but then the third guy comes out of nowhere, kicks the boy and proceeds to strangle him. So now your faced with a choice: you either pick up the knife and stab the man or you stay stuck there once again and let the boy who pretty much saved your life die. In the end you made the right decision and you both made it out alive AND the boy's father was so kind as to let you stay with them instead of leaving you to an orphanage.
THIS is the reason why she's like this.
Had this entire day not happened, she would have been just some regular little naive girl who lived happily with her parents while Eren would have most likely been taken away by Annie when they went on their first expedition.
While I do agree that Mikasa is a bit too attached to Eren at times, it's very understandable. He basically gave her a second chance at life AND he's a god damn hothead who's always ready to fight someone! Don't you think Eren's the kind of person who needs to be watched in case he tries to pummel someone? I mean, he's not that reckless but still, I'd keep an eye on him.
And though it may seem like it in certain moments, Eren isn't the only person that Mikasa cares about. Armin has also known her since childhood so of course she cares for him deeply, but Armin is more level-headed so he's not prone to getting into any fights like Eren. Plus, let's be real here, can you blame her for wanting to be around the person who saved her life at a young age more than a regular close childhood friend?
And if she "only cares for Eren" then why did she save Sasha before she got eaten by a Titan during the Battle of Trost? I've always liked to believe that Mikasa was more close to Sasha than any of the other girls (there's a few scenes between them in the anime that can prove as such) since she associates with her the most out of the rest in the manga and anime.
Also, there was a scene in the manga where Mikasa and Levi are sitting on top of a roof as they were preparing to invade a building and Mikasa asks him, "How's your ankle?"
Now remember, this injury of his was practically her fault because she got a little too excited when they finally cornered Annie in the Forest of the Big Ass Trees so he had to jump in and save her which ended up with him getting his ankle twisted.
So of course she would ask him such a question. It was her fault. But in reality, if she were actually as "emotionless" and "compassionless" as others said she was, she could have just acted as if the injury was because of Levi's recklessness instead of taking the blame like she did despite the fact that she disliked him because of what happened during the court scene.
Now I think Mikasa actually respects him more because she's gotten past the whole court scene dilemma and understands that he did what he did for Eren's safety.
I've also seen some shit-talking going around (and this is just a personal matter of mine) saying that she's unattractive. These people tend to target the fact that she's ripped as fuck and has a six-pack. What people fail to understand is that she's been training in the military since she was twelve. TWELVE! She was barely hitting puberty yet at that time, so don't you think it'd be normal for her to be extremely muscular for an average woman? She also had the goal in mind to protect Eren so that has a lot to do with it.
Plus, it's not like she's a bulky type of muscular. I've seen girls on Instagram who be looking like they're on steroids compared to Mikasa. And who doesn't like a girl who goes to the gym? At least she's taking extra care of her body instead of sitting around all day when she has the chance.
Point is, Mikasa is who she is because of the world they live in. Their world is pretty fucked up, so when you really think about it, wouldn't you be the same way if you lived her life?

Just something to think about
